View Streaming Video

The clips are in Windows wmv format. I'm not sure if this will work with non-Windows systems however. I don't have a way to test. If there's a demand, I'll put the clips up in other formats as well. E-mail me and tell me what works for you.

If you're using a Windows machine and are still having problems, some commonly encountered problems and their solutions are described below.

The video quality's terrible!

This happens most frequently when viewing the version designed for users with dialup (modem) connections. Since there's not much bandwidth, image quality has been degraded considerably. The version designed for users with broadband access is much better. If you're a dialup user and would like to see the higher quality version, you can do so by first downloading the file onto your computer. To do that, right-click on the broadband option, then select the "save target as" option. Most of the high quality video files average around 800Kb.

I clicked on the modem (56k) option. Windows Media Player starts up, I can hear audio but I don't see any video.

This seems to be a quirk of the version 6.4 player. The problem goes away when the file is first downloaded to your computer and then run from your system. To download, right click on the link and select "save target as". Version 7.0 should not have this problem.

Windows Media Player tries to connect to the Microsoft site when I click on a link with video.

This sometimes happens with older versions of the player. The player is trying to download an updated codec that will play the video stream. The process is automatic. The system may prompt and ask whether you wish to install the new component. Selecting "yes" will install that component and play the video. You will only need to do this once.

The video is jerky and/or freezes occasionally. The audio stutters.

There is insufficient bandwidth between your computer and our server. This is most likely to occur if you have a dialup connection. Other reasons include heavy utilization on our server, network congestion or other circumstances beyond our control. If you can normally stream video smoothly, try again a bit later, or download the file and play from your computer.
